The economy car of Lada Samara was manufactured by AvtoVAZ, the Russian automaker in the year 1984. Only exported models were named as Samara. Basically it was marketed as Sputnik (means ‘satellite’ or ‘fellow traveler’) in Russia. The export name was started using in production after the launch of Samara’s sedan version in 1991. In 2013, the production was discontinued of Lada Samara. Nevertheless, there is no reason to discontinue the pickup version. On the success of range based on Fiat 124, Samara model was required to be manufactured with strong body, modern style and low maintenance cost. With petrol engines of 1.1, 1.3 & 1.5 liter, it came with 3, 4 and 5 door variants respectively. From AutoVAZ, it was next independent variant after Niva SUV.
