Before the yearend a revamped version of the present GT-R producing 530hp is expected and only awaiting confirmation. But according to Japan sources the full generation next has to be signed off still which had also led to the speculation of the car being dropped in a bid to reduce the Nissan range car fuel consumption and CO2 emission levels.
Toshiyuki Shiga, the company’s chief operating officer while speaking to Autocar exclusively said that GT-R is a heritage of Nissan and the sports cars from Nissan have offered immense pleasure to drivers all over the world though the company started as a passenger car manufacturing venture. He also stated that the company would not commit on any new product but keep its technology and produce sporty models. He further added that the electric models are also thought of as sports cars by the company.Photo 2: Sport models have prominent place in the future lineup of cars, says Nissan
According to him the market is rapidly changing and paying more concern to the environment, hence producing a car that is 100% electric powered is a possibility and it can be also a sports car. Infiniti hybrid had been developed by Nissan and they were highly exciting prospects according to him.
In the meanwhile Nissan’s arch rival in Japan, Toyota has started new efforts to build a new performance that is economical, including a compact rear-wheel drive, which eventually will come under FT-86 coupé in the firm’s car line-up. Shiga almost affirmed that Nissan would make a similar effort but he refused to either confirm or deny the rumors being circulated about the successor which would take the place of 200SX in future.
