There was high demand for Dodge Caravan at the time when Dodge decided to launch Caravan to fulfil the needs of the customers. The production of Dodge Caravan was started in the year 1984 and the nameplate variant of Caravan was the Plymouth Voyager. There are other nameplates of the Voyager too like Chrysler Voyager. The strange thing about the Caravan is that Chrysler decided to follow the long wheelbase model for Caravan.
The first generation lasted 6 years from 1984 to 1990 and also some special models were released on the anniversary of the company. The vans could carry up to 7 passengers at a time in three rows of seating, putting it between a typical twelve-passenger/four-row full-size vans. However, this seating capacity was increased to 9 to boost up the sales but it didn’t work out. At a later stage, cargo access to the rear was via a hatchback.
