It is an Italian street motorcycle manufactured by Ducati and its production was started in 1999. The design of the 996 was pretty much based on the 916 design. Another notable change was that it had larger 98 mm (3.9 in) pistons. Ducati 996 SPS model got really fame because it produced around 92.4 kW (124 bhp), more than the standard 996. The 996 R was produced only for a limited number i.e. 500 and obviously R stands for racing.
The Racing 996 had the capability to produce 98.5 kW (136 bhp) at 10,200 RPM with a maximum torque of 105 Nm at 8000 RPM. The suspension system was kept the same because of some reasons. Another massive change was that the front forks were also titanium nitrided to reduce stiction and that really helped the riders at that time. An aluminum rear subframe was added as a final update for this bike.
