Volkswagen Sharan has been in production since 1995 and it is a MPV 7-seater manufactured by Volkswagen, Germany. It is based on the same platform as the SEAT Alhambra and so were the first generation vehicles with the Ford Galaxy. The car is now in its second generation and it is being assembled in AutoEuropa plant located at Palmela, Portugal. The car is classified as a large 5-door MPV and is offered with front engine layout Front Wheel Drive and 4-wheel drive. Platform on which it is built is Volkswagen Group B-VX62 and was available in 1.5 L I4 to 2.8L VR6 petrol engines and 1.9L I4 to 2.0L I4. Gearbox options available included 5-speed and 6-speed manual a 5-speed Tiptronic automatic. The name Sharan has been borrowed from Persian meaning the English “Carrier of the Kings”.  In the 15 years of its tenure Volkswagen Sharan has sold a stupendous 670, 000 units.
