The production of Cadillac De Ville Series was started in 1958 and the term de Ville was originally a trim level of the Series Cadillac Marque. Although the first car to bear the name de Ville was in 1949 and it was a series 62 luxury coupe. On the other hand, the last car to bear the term de Ville was a 2005 Cadillac de Ville which was a full size sedan and also the largest car in the Cadillac model range at that time. A few years later, De Ville became the official name as DTS which was the abbreviation of De Ville Touring Sedan. 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission was installed in this series and it became available in 4-door 6-window hardtop, 4-door 4-window hardtop and 2-door hardtop.
