Citroen started the production of this cute looking supermini car in the beginning of 1996. The interesting thing to note here is that Citroen Saxo did share a lot of similarities with the Peugeot 106 which was itself a development of Citroen AX. However, the major difference was in the interiors and body panels. It wasn’t until 2003 when this model was replaced by Citroen C2. It delivered good performance and the engines installed were from PSA TU engine series.
However, the early 1.0 was quite under-powered with the 1.1 being considered much better because of the reason that it was almost 200 cc larger and generated more torque that the previous version. Due to the interest shown by people, Citroen also decided to launch the sport versions named the Westcoas, the VTR MK1 and the VTS 16V. A great feature is that there were 247 mm (9.7 in) vented front brake discs installed in them.
