Volkswagen Polo is manufactured by Volkswagen of Germany and it is a supermini model produced since 1975. The car is distributed across the globe in different body types such as hatchback, coupe, saloon and estate variations. As on 2011 Polo has ridden through 5 generations with periodical makeovers. Polo was also voted as the 2010 world car of the year. Each generation was recognized either as Series or Mark. Some of the models got facelifts while they are in production and acquired an additional letter such as Mark IIF. The car was going through different styles in its lifetime and it was a hatchback derivative of the Audi 50 originally. The Polo nameplate was carried by different platform Volkswagen vehicles. The VW Polo Playa sold in 1990 in South Africa was a Seat Ibiza rebadged sold in Europe. The VW Polo Saloon is sold only in Latin America, China, South African countries and South Africa currently.
