The Volvo 700 series was manufactured by Volvo of Sweden from 1982 to 1992 and during that time 1,430,000 units were produced. The assembly was carried out at Kalmar, Sweden and Clayton, Australia. The series was termed as mid-size executive/luxury cars and it had a front layout. The 200 was its predecessor, though it still continued in production, and later it was succeeded by the Volvo 900 series. The series was introduced with a 760 luxury model and after 2 years a reasonably priced 740 was released. Beginning 1990 the 700 series was gradually replaced by the 900 series. It was originally designed to replace the 200 series, but manufacturing was continued to the early part of 1990 for the model. In 1986 an expensive model the 780 was entered for manufacturing and it went out 4 years later without any successor. The most noticeable difference between the 700 and 900 the rounded framework of the 900 as well as the better designed cabin.
