Dodge shadow was first produced in 1987 and it has a lot of resemblance with Plymouth Sundance. At first they were released as 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks in compact form. The 3 door model was released to replace the Dodge Charger and the 5 door model replaced the Dodge Omni. It had an FF layout and the design of the Shadow employed a variant of the K-car platform. An interesting thing to note here is that although they appeared to have a trunk, it was actually a hatchback.
It wasn’t until 1994 when a motorized passenger’s side belt was introduced but it did not comply with some countries’ safety standards so a manual seat was used instead. The engines used in the Dodge Shadow were either 2.2 or 2.5 L and only some of them were turbocharged. All engines were available with a five-speed manual transmission, while a 3 speed automatic was optional.
