Triumph Herald is a compact 2-door car debuted by Standard-Triumph from Coventry. The design was created by Giovanni Michelotti and was offered in body types of Saloon, coupe, convertible, estate and van. During its tenure its models sold over 500, 000 and even today they can be seen plying the British roads. Herald’s bolt together bodies, chassis and the gear system are the forerunners for Triumph Vitesse, Spitfire and GT6. After offering a string of two-seater sports models apart from saloons, Standard 8 & 10, a new update was due for Standard-Triumph series of cars. That is how the Herald took birth and the design was worked out. Originally it was planned to market the car with the Standard name by the year 1959 it was clear that the Standard name does not have significant brand equity hence it was phased out after 1963 in Britain. After testing the prototype with run between Cape Town and Tangiers the Triumph-Herald made its debut at Royal Albert Hall in April 1959 and became instantly popular.
