The Volvo 164 was manufactured by Volvo from 1968 to 1975 at Torslanda, Sweden and Kalmar, Sweden. It was designed by Jan Wilsgaard and was termed as a luxury segment car offered in 4-door sedan body type. The sedan was based on a FR layout and used a Powertrain of 3.0 L B30 straight-6. It was offered M40 4-speed manual transmission, M140 4-speed manual overdrive and BW-35 3-speed auto transmission. The 164 replaced Volvo PV831 Disponent and was succeeded by the Volvo 264 in 1976. It was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1968 and was sold as the 1969 model. After selling 46,008 units the 164 was dropped for the 264. In 1968 it was marked as the luxury version of the 140 series. It featured several unique items such as the grille, front bumper, headlamp bezel, bonnet, wings and front indicators and it was the answer for the likes of Jaguar XJ6 and Mercedes-Benz 250.
