The Chevrolet Chevette was a car of subcompact size and manufactured by General Motors through its Chevrolet division and marketed. The car was based on the GM’s global T platform and introduced to the world in 1975. The Chevette was produced for model years 1976 to 1987 and succeeded the Vega as an entry-level subcompact car. It was also marketed as Pontiac Acadian in Canada and its production was on par with the Chevette. Pontiac T1000/1000 had similar success in the US from 1981-1987. During 1979 to 1980 Chevette was the most popular and the best seller in America and had equal following in South America where it lasted till 1998. Chevette also called as the Pontiac Acadian was manufactured in 3-door and 5-door hatchback models in the subcompact class. Chevette Acadian was also the lightest passenger car available at that time in the US and also the most fuel efficient. The base 1.4 L was producing a fuel economy of 28mpg per US gallon.
