This is a compact car which was manufactured and sold by Daihatsu which is a Japanese automaker in 1989. The production of the Applause continued for 11 years until 2000. The interesting thing about the Applause is that it is known for its unique body style which appears as a 4 door sedan but it is actually a 5 door liftback. Three years after its production, it was facelifted which only resulted in subtle alteration of the front and rear fascias and slight increase in length.
It underwent the second facelifting phase in 1997 when it looked really modern and quite smaller than the other compact cars. The new and improved version was launched at Frankfurt Motor Show in 1997 where it had new front and rear fascias provided for a much more "formal" appearance. However, even this facelift failed to boost up the sales so the production of the Applause was discontinued in 2000.
