This gigantic looking 4 wheel drive was manufactured by Daihatsu for 10 years from 1974 to 1984. An interesting thing is the names by which it has been called in different markets that are Wildcat or Scat. Some car enthusiasts also compare the Daihatsu Taft with Suzuki Jimny as they have a few things in common but the Jimny was a bit larger than the Taft. Moreover, Daihatsu Taft was later replaced by the new Daihatsu Rugger, also known as Rocky.
It is interesting to note that the 1.6 L (1587 cc) 12R petrol engine arrived in 1977. Moreover the famous F50 2.5 L DG engine was also introduced at that time. The major development came in 1983 when Daihatsu decided to launch the F20 and F25 models as an optional deluxe version as they had a 5 speed gearbox and some other enhanced features that were demanded by people.
