renault 9 | show original size
Renault 9 and Renault 11 are two small family cars and their production was started in 1981 and their variants were produced by American Motors Corporation (AMC) and also for the Colombian market. The unique thing about the Renault 9 is that it uses a transverse front-wheel drive engine configuration and a 4 wheel independent suspension. Due to their good performance, they were chosen as European Car of the Year for the year 1982.
At first it was introduced as a 4 door saloon and it was Renault 11 that was offered in a 3 door hatchback. It is interested to note that despite having different names and nameplates, the Renault 9 and 11 are almost identical under the body. However the 11 is distinguished from the 9 by its front end, which featured square twin headlights. The production of the 9 and 11 was continued until the Renault 19 was released which replace both of them.
