Coming forth into the spotlight in a series of compactly devised pick-up trucks that are manufactured as well as marketed by Japanese producer Toyota, the Hilux, is one bright star in the spotlessly dark night. Several countries have used the Hilux name for the time period of the entire life line of the series, however, in North America, the Hilux proper noun got an early retirement as soon as, in the year 1976 in communion with the Truck, the Pickup Truck, or the Compact Truck, for that matter. Stationed in North America the popularly known optional package, called the Sport Rally 5-Speed, was idiomatically being used as a good enough truck model name, even though the SR5S optionally used package was there matched with several other Toyota-made models like the Corolla, for one. In the year 1984, the Trekker, got renamed as the 4Runner (Australia and North America) as it got forth as the camper version of the Hilux. It got its name coined as the Hilux Surf in Japan.
