This large family car was produced by Renault in 1978 and its production was continued for 15 years until 1993. It is a surprise that Renault 18 was intended to replace the Renault 12 but it was based upon the Renault 12’s underpinnings. At first, only a 4 door saloon version of the Renault 18 was presented for sale but TL, GTL, TS and GTS trim variation arrived with the time.
A 4/5-speed manual or a 3 speed automatic transmission was installed in the car and there was a 1397 cc Renault Cléon petrol engine installed in the TL and GTL versions. Other improvements included that the rear seat belts were made necessary and also a manual choke replaced the automatic one. Power assisted steering also came later and the 5 speed gearbox was also an option for the drivers. The Renault 18 Turbo was introduced in 1980 with enhanced and latest features at that time.
